Aging Families

“Liz acted as our aged mother’s bookkeeper for several years before our mother died. Liz came to our mother’s place every Wednesday afternoon to balance her checkbook, pay her bills, write her letters, handle all sorts of miscellaneous paperwork, and generally keep her life from sliding into disarray. Liz’s visits were a highlight of our mother’s week. “Liz is coming tomorrow,” our mother would say rather exultantly. Liz often was accompanied by her dog and we took it as a sign of Liz’s skill and good humor that our mother, who was decidedly not a dog lover, never said anything about the canine side of these sessions. After our mother died, we inherited Liz’s incredibly well-organized files and they made the handling of our mother’s estate much easier. She also helped us disburse our mother’s belongings after our mother died and even performed tasks such as taking personal items to various charities. We can’t recommend Liz highly enough. She is honest, smart, discrete, and fun to be around. She saved us immense time and trouble and made our mother’s life both easier and happier.”—Alexandra L. and Joan L.

“Liz has helped my mother with all my grandmother’s day-to-day financial tasks for years now, which include paying bills, transferring funds, dealing with frequent charitable donations requests, and many other activities. She has always produced very clear and accurate statements of where all the funds are upon request and on a regular basis. She has been a huge help to us over the years and our family is so pleased to have her services. I would recommend Liz to anyone that needs help getting more organized in their financial life regardless of their age. My grandmother just turned 100 and is living in a personal care facility. Liz travels to the facility often and has great personal skills when it comes to dealing with the elderly. My grandmother now has dementia, but Liz has always been able to keep her smiling when she is there. Liz is not just a service provider to our family, she is also a great friend.”—Tim W.

“Hard to say enough about the valuable & trusted role Liz has played in helping care for & create a comfortable financial & living environment for our Mother. Liz has capably handled our Mother’s bookkeeping & related accounting for quite some time. She has also gone well beyond this accounting role, to help our extended family deal with many unexpected and unusual events that come up in the care of an elderly parent, when children are not local, and can’t attend to things directly. This is not to imply that she was the every-day care giver—that was not her role. But, she has been able to observe and make thoughtful recommendations when a change in arrangements might be desirable. Liz has earned our highest level of trust in being a hands-on handler of financial affairs and in helping the extended family with financial planning & choices. We greatly appreciate her role in, and contributions to, our family.”—Mac L.

“I hired Liz as a bookkeeper for my father who had dementia at the time of hiring. She worked diligently, skillfully, and very personably under the challenging circumstance of my father’s illness explaining things so that he could understand what he needed to do and why. She solved problems and made sound recommendations regarding such issues as Medicare reimbursements and tax preparation. She was the picture of propriety and timeliness. I recommend Liz enthusiastically and without reservation.”—John L.
